Signs to watch for

Signs your engine needs reconditioning.

Engine reconditioning means stripping, measuring and machining the engine back to spec instead of replacing it. Pick any of these up early and it is usually the cheapest path to a healthy engine, even with the freight from Bendigo factored in.

  • Heavy oil use or blue smoke

Worn rings or valve guides let oil burn through the engine. A common sign the bottom end or head needs reconditioning.

  • Knocking, ticking or rattling

Bearing knock, lifter tick or rod knock usually mean wear in moving parts that needs proper measuring and machining, not patches.

  • Low compression

Compression off on one or more cylinders points to ring, valve or head issues. We pressure-test and crack-test before any work starts.

  • Hard starting or rough idle

Compression loss, head gasket failure or fuel-system wear all show up here. Worth a proper diagnosis before it gets worse.

  • Power loss under load

Engine pulling like it is tired? Up hills, loaded, towing? Usually compression or fuel-side wear that reconditioning can sort.

  • Coolant in oil or oil in coolant

Milky oil, oily coolant or pressurised radiator caps almost always mean head gasket or cracked head. Reconditioning rather than replacement is often the fix.

  • After a bad experience with a previous engine builder, I was reluctant to trust anyone else. After talking with Matt, Chantelle and Jett it was obvious my engine was in good hands. A few weeks later, my V8 was back to me all sorted and running a treat.

About us

Meet Matt & Chantelle.

We’re Matt and Chantelle, and we took this place on more than five years ago.

We started small, with a willingness to graft and a belief we could do it better. Long days. Working things out as we went. Keeping the doors open one week at a time.

That work ethic still runs the place. Every engine, every service, every job gets the same attention to detail. We do the job right, and we stand behind it.

What we’re most proud of is the customers who keep coming back, the locals who send their mates our way, and the workshops that trust us with their engines. That backing is what built this business.

Five years in. Just getting started.

FAQ

Common questions about engine reconditioning.

Anything we have not covered, give us a call and we will sort it.

  • Reconditioning is stripping the engine down, measuring every component and machining the worn ones back to specification. Heads are pressure tested, resurfaced and given valve work, blocks are bored and honed, crankshafts are ground and polished, then it is reassembled to spec. It brings a worn engine back to health without replacing it.
